Rail Disha
This project focuses on improving the inside-station navigation experience through a mobile application that helps commuters move efficiently between platforms, exits, bridges, and connecting transport systems.

“Which bridge goes to Platform 4?”
“Where is the Central Line?”
“Is this the East or West exit?”
“How do I get to the fast train platform?”
This repeated observation led to the core idea behind the project:
How might we make navigation inside Mumbai railway stations faster, clearer, and less stressful for commuters?
Heavy commuter traffic
Interchange complexity
Multiple exits
Crowded foot-over bridges
No proper in-station navigation
fast-paced decision making

India ranked
111th
out of the 125 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2023.
Restaurant industry's substantial yearly production of
11.9 million tonnes of food waste.
16%
of India's population, are undernourished
Real-world commuter behavior was observed inside railway stations during both peak and non-peak hours. The objective was to understand how users navigate spaces under time pressure and crowded conditions.
Many commuters relied on memory rather than station signs
Users often paused near foot-over bridge junctions before deciding where to go
East/West exits caused confusion, especially for occasional travelers
Commuters under rush-hour pressure made quick decisions with minimal time to process information
Several users asked strangers for directions instead of relying on signage
